LAN Parties for 2006

Moua S. hosted the first LAN party for 2006 at his home in Cottage Grove, Mn. on Feb. 18.  I didn't get a count but it looked as if we had about
18 players.  Moua's wife Cindy is an excellent cook and we started out even before playing any games eating homemade egg rolls.
For dinner Cindy made rice and chicken curry, which was excellent.  Thank you Cindy for all your work - and for putting up with us.

I don't know if this is a new drink or not but Captain Morgan & Bawls is really good.  I did bring a bottle of Captain over to the LAN and it was empty
by the time it was to go home, which was about 1 a.m.   The LAN start time was noon but as with any LAN party there are setup problems.
The problems are not always network related - like a flaky switch that would overheat and disconnect everyone from that game,
but getting all the players games installed and getting the correct patch version on the computers seems to happen at every LAN.
Now we are not talking just about Mike (first photo) - there were others (see 2nd photo) Jim and Ryan - looks like they are installing
some software with help from Derrick.

The games consisted of Unreal Tournament (Game of the year), Battlefield 1942 w/ Desert Combat Extended, Counter Strike (LAN ver. 1.6)
and Unreal Tournament 2004.

Here are a few photos from the first LAN party in 2006.
Someone had asked me if we every have any female players.
We do now.  Look at the last photo.  Moua's daughter Jennifer, age 9.

Here is one JPG that Moua created - Nice.

Jim B. hosted - not at his house but his mother-in-laws home in Lakeville on November 4.  It has a large lower level which was perfect for a LAN.  Once we had the electric figured out - the gaming went very well.  I think we tripped the circuit breakers 3 times before we got all the extension cords ran to various parts of the house.   We had 17 players show up for the LAN - a few new comers to our group.

Because Jim's mother-in-law really doesn't use the lower level of her home, we needed to bring in extra tables and chairs.  I took a load of tables and chairs over the night before and then the computers over the next morning.  Setup for players started at noon on Saturday and we got playing shortly after that - 2-3 hours later.   Games played - BF 1942, Desert Combat mod, Quake 3 and UT game of the year.  The gaming ended about 12:30 a.m. Sunday.

A new drink - Captain Morgan rum and Mountain Dew.  It is very good.

We filled the finished room in the home and had to put 4 player in the unfinished area as can be seen in the 2nd photo.

Here are the photos from the LAN.  Sorry if I didn't get everyone who attended in these shots.
