LAN PARTY 2005

Mike Moran hosted our first 2005 LAN party at the Days Inn in Brooklyn Center.  I think we had about 13 players and it was a good day to be indoors as the outside temperature was never above zero.

The games we played were Battlefield 1942 and the Desert Combat mods.  We also played a bit of Battlefield Vietnam.   A new one that I did not know about was the Desert Combat Extended.  It adds/modifies some weapons and maps on the original Desert Combat mod.  To play this mod you will need BF 1942 with patch 1.6, Desert Combat .7.  This mod was a blast to play!!  Thank you Adam and friends for introducing us all to this mod.  Even after playing it for 12 hours on Saturday, I was playing it again Sunday on line.

We did have a problem with a few players that when they tried to connect to the LAN game of BF Vietnam they got an error that their CD key was invalid.  What we found after searching the internet was that when Battle Field 1942 was uninstalled, it also removed the CD Key out of the registry for the Battlefield Vietnam.  We manually edited the registry and added the keys and the value (CD Key) and we no longer got this error and did get connected.

We all thank Mike Moran for making the hotel arraignments and for supplying all the players with their favorite pizza.
Thank you Mike!

2nd LAN Party 2005

Jim B. hosted the 2nd LAN party of 2005 at his home in Lakeville.  We had about 10 players and we played about 14 hours - with 2 good breaks where hot dogs, brats and hamburgers were grilled on Jim's new gas grill.  We had the usual problems where some players could not get into the game - message - data differs from server - or something like that.  This was showing up while trying to play the mod to Battle Field 1942, DCX.   What one of the players suggested was to copy the mod directory of a working computer to the mod directory of the computer that was getting the error.  This did work.  Reinstalling the game, then the patches and the mod did not work.

Here are a few photos of the LAN.    Thank you Jim and Ryan for hosting!

3rd LAN Party 2005

Jonathan M. was the kind person to sacrifice his home to a dozen child-like adults to play 12 hours of computer games, eat pizza and drink high sugar/caffeine  drinks. Sounds like a perfect time to me.  There was also a BBQ outdoors where the meat on the grille was identified as "some kind of meat."  It was a good sausage and served with white rice.    We started out with Battle Field 1942 DCX mod and then moved to Counterstrike.   The night finished up with the human players against the bots on DCX lost village.  It was 40 bots against 8 of us.  It took some time but the humans defeated the computer.

Thank you Jonathan for your hospitality and for sharing your home.   Below are some photos of the 3rd LAN of 2005.
